നാലുമണിച്ചെടി (Marvel of Peru or Four o’clock flower)

അന്തിമലരി എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. കൃഷ്ണകേലി, സന്ധ്യാകലി, എന്നീ പേരുകളിലും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഈ സസ്യം ഇന്ത്യയിലെല്ലായിടങ്ങളിലും ധാരാളമായി വളരുന്നു. ചുവപ്പ്, പര്‍പ്പിള്‍, മഞ്ഞ, നീല തുടങ്ങിയ ആകര്‍ഷകങ്ങളായ നിറങ്ങളിലുള്ള പുഷ്പങ്ങളാണ് ഇവയുടേത്. കറുത്ത ഉരുണ്ട ചെറിയ വിത്തുകളാണ് നാലുമണിച്ചെടിയുടേത്. ഇതിന്റെ കനം കൂടിയ വേരുകള്‍ കിഴങ്ങുരൂപത്തില്‍ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. നാലുമണിച്ചെടിയുടെ വേരും ഇലയും സാധാരണ ഔഷധമായി ഉപയോഗിച്ചുവരുന്നു. പൊള്ളലിന് ശമനം ലഭിക്കാനും, ദഹനത്തിനും മറ്റും ഇത് നല്ലതാണത്രേ.

Rose

Rosy Periwinkle

An ornamental and medicinal plant. It is native and endemic to Madagascar, but grown in other parts of the world as an ornamental and medicinal plant. This is a source of a drug to treat cancer. This has also long been cultivated for herbal medicine. In Ayurveda the extracts of its roots and shoots, are used against several diseases.

രാജമല്ലി (Peacock flower)

പൂക്കളുടെ ആകൃതി പ്രത്യേകതകൊണ്ടാണ് പീക്കോക്ക് ഫ്‌ളവര്‍ എന്ന പേര്. നാം സാധാരണ വിളിക്കുന്ന പേര് രാജമല്ലി. ഭാരതത്തില്‍ ധാരാളമായി കണ്ടുവരുന്നതും ഉദ്യാനസസ്യം എന്ന നിലയില്‍ വളര്‍ത്തുന്നതുമായ ഒരു സസ്യയിനമാണ് ഇത്. ഇല, പൂവ്, വിത്ത് ഇവ ഔഷധത്തിന് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.

White Dahlia flower

There are 42 species of dahlia, with hybrids commonly grown as garden plants. The majority of species do not produce scented flowers, but are brightly coloured. The dahlia was declared the national flower of Mexico in 1963.

Evening Primrose

This got the name as the flower opens in the evening. This flowering plants are native to the Americas. Most species have yellow flowers, but some have white, purple, pink, or red. Evening primrose has many medicinal qualities and the entire plant is edible. It is said to be useful for coughs associated with colds, ointment useful for skin rashes, for the teatment of gastro-intestinal disorders and so on.

അമ്പലപാല /ചെമ്പകം(Plumeria)

നമ്മുടെ നാട്ടില്‍ സാധാരണമായി കണ്ടുവരുന്ന ഒരു പൂവാണിത്. ഹൃദ്യമായ ഗന്ധമാണിതിനുള്ളത്. ഈ ഇനത്തില്‍പെട്ട പൂക്കള്‍ രാത്രിയില്‍ കൂടുതല്‍ സുഗന്ധം പരത്തുന്നതിനാല്‍ പരാഗണം നടക്കുന്നതും രാത്രിയിലാണ്. നിരവധി ഇനങ്ങളുള്ള ഈ ചെടിക്ക് ഇംഗ്‌ളീഷില്‍ പ്ലമേറിയ എന്ന പേരാണുള്ളത്.

അരളി (Nerium/Oleander)

ഇന്ത്യയിലുടനീളം കാണപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു നിത്യഹരിതസസ്യമാണ് അരളി. എല്ലാത്തരം കാലാവസ്ഥയിലും വളരാന്‍ തക്ക ശേഷിയുണ്ടിതിന്. മഞ്ഞ, ചുവപ്പ്, വെളുപ്പ് തുടങ്ങിയ നിറങ്ങളിലുള്ള പുഷ്പങ്ങള്‍ ഉണ്ടാകുന്നതായി കാണുന്നു. ഉദ്യാനസസ്യമായി വളര്‍ത്തപ്പെടുന്ന അരളിച്ചെടി അലങ്കാരത്തിനും, ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലും മറ്റും പൂജയ്ക്കും ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു. പൊതുവേ വിഷമുള്ളതായ ഈ ചെടിയുടെ പൂവടക്കമുള്ള ഭാഗങ്ങള്‍ ഔഷധനിര്‍മാണത്തിന് ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്താമെന്ന് കണ്ടെത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.

മോത് ഓര്‍ക്കിഡ് (Moth orchid)

പ്രാചീന ഗ്രീക്ക് ഭാഷയിലെ 'ഒരിനം ശലഭം' എന്നര്‍ത്ഥം വരുന്ന വാക്കായ 'ഫലൈന' (phalaina)  എന്നതില്‍നിന്നാണ് ഈ പേരുണ്ടായത്. 'ഫാല്‍' എന്ന ചുരുക്കപ്പേരിലും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഏകദേശം 60 ഇനം ഉള്ള ഓര്‍ക്കിഡേസീ കുടുംബത്തിലെ ഓര്‍ക്കിഡ് ജീനസാണിത്. പ്രധാനമായും എഷ്യന്‍ ഭൂഖണ്ഡത്തിലെ രാജ്യങ്ങളിലും ആസ്‌ട്രേലിയയിലും കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.

ചെണ്ടുമല്ലി (Marigold)

സൂര്യകാന്തി കുടുംബത്തില്‍പെട്ട സസ്യങ്ങളാണിവ. മിക്കവാറും ഔഷധസസ്യങ്ങളാണ്. കാള്‍ ലിനേയസ് 1753-ലാണ് ഇവയുടെ വര്‍ഗ്ഗീകരണം നടത്തിയത്. യൂറോപ്പില്‍ കണ്ടുവന്നിരുന്ന  Mary’s goldഎന്നറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന മറ്റൊരു പുഷ്പവുമായുള്ള രൂപസാദൃശ്യത്തില്‍നിന്നാണ് Marigold എന്ന പേര് ഈ പൂവിന് കൈവന്നത്. ഗന്ധമുള്ളതും ഇല്ലാത്തതുമായ പൂക്കള്‍ ഉള്ള ചെടികളുണ്ട്.

Chrysanthemum flower

Native to East Asia. Most species originate from East Asia. Countless horticultural varieties exist. The Imperial Seal of Japan is a chrysanthemum and the institution of the monarchy is also called the Chrysanthemum Throne. Yellow or white chrysanthemum flowers of  a particular species are boiled to make a tea in some parts of East Asia and also used in wine making in some other parts of the world.

A type of Marigold flower

A flower in the sunflower family which was described as a genus by Carl Linnaeus in 1753. The common name in English, marigold, is derived from Mary’s gold, a name first applied to a similar plant native to Europe.

ഒരു ഉദ്യാനസസ്യമാണ് റ്റുലിപ്. ഇതിനു 109 ലധികം തരങ്ങള്‍ ഉണ്ടെന്ന് കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു. 'തലകീഴായിട്ടുള്ള പുഷ്പത്തിനെ പ്രതിനിധീകരിക്കുന്നു' എന്നാണ് ടൂലിപ്പ് എന്ന പദംകൊണ്ട് അര്‍ഥമാക്കുന്നത്. ഹോളണ്ടില്‍നിന്നാണ് ഈ പുഷ്പം തെര്‍ലന്‍ഡ്‌സിലും അമേരിക്കയിലും യൂറോപ്പിലും എല്ലാം എത്തിച്ചേരുകയും അവിടെയെല്ലാം വാണിജ്യാടിസ്ഥാനത്തിലുള്ള കൃഷി ആരംഭിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. റ്റുലിപ് പൂക്കള്‍ നീല ഒഴിച്ച് വിവിധ വര്‍ണ്ണങ്ങളില്‍ ഉണ്ട്. വസന്തകാലത്തെ ഏറ്റവും പകിട്ടുള്ള ഒരു പുഷ്പ ഇനമാണിത്. സാധാരണ ഒറ്റ തണ്ടില്‍ വിരിയുന്ന പൂക്കളാണ്. എന്നാല്‍ ചെലയിനങ്ങളില്‍ ഒന്നിലേറെ പൂക്കള്‍ ഒരു തണ്ടില്‍ നിന്നും ഉണ്ടാകുന്നു.
