ഡാലിയ (Dahlia)

മനോഹരമായ പുഷ്പങ്ങള്‍ ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന കുറ്റിച്ചെടിയാണ് ഡാലിയ. വിവിധ നിറങ്ങളില്‍ പൂക്കള്‍ ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന ഇനങ്ങളുണ്ട്. സാധാരണഗതിയില്‍ രണ്ടു വര്‍ഷമാണ് ചെടിയുടെ ആയുസ്. വേരുകളില്‍ ആഹാരം സൂക്ഷിച്ചു വയ്ക്കുന്ന ചെടിയായതിനാല്‍ ചില രാജ്യങ്ങളിലെ ജനങ്ങള്‍ ഇവയെ ആഹാരത്തിനായും വളര്‍ത്തുന്നു. ഔഷധഗുണമുള്ളതായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
മദ്ധ്യ തെക്കന്‍ അമേരിക്കന്‍ ഭൂപ്രദേശങ്ങളാണ് ഈ ചെടിയുടെ ജന്മദേശം. സ്വീഡിഷ് സസ്യശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനും ലോകപ്രസിദ്ധ സ്വീഡിഷ് സസ്യശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനായിരുന്ന കാള്‍ ലിനേയസിന്റെ (Carl Linnaeus) ശിഷ്യനുമായിരുന്ന ആന്ദ്രേ ഡാലിന്റെ (Anders Dahl) ഓര്‍മ്മയ്ക്കായാണ് ഈ പുഷ്പത്തിന് ഡാലിയ എന്ന പേരു നല്‍കിയത്. 1963ല്‍ ഡാലിയയെ മെക്‌സിക്കോയുടെ ദേശീയ പുഷ്പമായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു.

നാലുമണിച്ചെടി (Marvel of Peru or Four o’clock flower)

അന്തിമലരി എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. കൃഷ്ണകേലി, സന്ധ്യാകലി, എന്നീ പേരുകളിലും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഈ സസ്യം ഇന്ത്യയിലെല്ലായിടങ്ങളിലും ധാരാളമായി വളരുന്നു. ചുവപ്പ്, പര്‍പ്പിള്‍, മഞ്ഞ, നീല തുടങ്ങിയ ആകര്‍ഷകങ്ങളായ നിറങ്ങളിലുള്ള പുഷ്പങ്ങളാണ് ഇവയുടേത്. കറുത്ത ഉരുണ്ട ചെറിയ വിത്തുകളാണ് നാലുമണിച്ചെടിയുടേത്. ഇതിന്റെ കനം കൂടിയ വേരുകള്‍ കിഴങ്ങുരൂപത്തില്‍ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. നാലുമണിച്ചെടിയുടെ വേരും ഇലയും സാധാരണ ഔഷധമായി ഉപയോഗിച്ചുവരുന്നു. പൊള്ളലിന് ശമനം ലഭിക്കാനും, ദഹനത്തിനും മറ്റും ഇത് നല്ലതാണത്രേ.

Rose

One of the most common garden flowers and the official flower of the United States of America.  But most species are native to Asia. There are over three hundred species and tens of thousands of cultivars.  Flowers vary in size and shape. There are a wide variety of colours ranging from white through yellows and reds.

Rosy Periwinkle

An ornamental and medicinal plant. It is native and endemic to Madagascar, but grown in other parts of the world as an ornamental and medicinal plant. This is a source of a drug to treat cancer. This has also long been cultivated for herbal medicine. In Ayurveda the extracts of its roots and shoots, are used against several diseases.

രാജമല്ലി (Peacock flower)

പൂക്കളുടെ ആകൃതി പ്രത്യേകതകൊണ്ടാണ് പീക്കോക്ക് ഫ്‌ളവര്‍ എന്ന പേര്. നാം സാധാരണ വിളിക്കുന്ന പേര് രാജമല്ലി. ഭാരതത്തില്‍ ധാരാളമായി കണ്ടുവരുന്നതും ഉദ്യാനസസ്യം എന്ന നിലയില്‍ വളര്‍ത്തുന്നതുമായ ഒരു സസ്യയിനമാണ് ഇത്. ഇല, പൂവ്, വിത്ത് ഇവ ഔഷധത്തിന് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.

White Dahlia flower

There are 42 species of dahlia, with hybrids commonly grown as garden plants. The majority of species do not produce scented flowers, but are brightly coloured. The dahlia was declared the national flower of Mexico in 1963.

Evening Primrose

This got the name as the flower opens in the evening. This flowering plants are native to the Americas. Most species have yellow flowers, but some have white, purple, pink, or red. Evening primrose has many medicinal qualities and the entire plant is edible. It is said to be useful for coughs associated with colds, ointment useful for skin rashes, for the teatment of gastro-intestinal disorders and so on.
